LP (Item 479424) Cantor, 1980 — Condition: New Copy

A pretty amazing snapshot of the post punk/post disco era NYC scene – danceable synth and unclassifiable avant pop that's unlike anything else – especially given that the singer is 12-year-old Chandra Oppenheim! Chandra's father is artist Dennis Oppenheim, whose friends Eugenie Diserio and Steven Alexander of Model Citizens & The Dance were looking for a youthful voice – and the shortlived group Chandra was born. There's a natural naivete to the performances, obviously, but she has a confidence beyond her years, and both the songs and the recordings are wonderful – so many neo new wave acts still strain for this kind of sound! As fans of both the no wave noise and the more danceable faction of early 80s rock underground, we'd never heard of Chandra and we're thankful to Counter Records the introduction! Transportation includes tracks from the long lost Transportation EP – plus tracks recorded in 1982 as The Chandra Dimension that went unreleased until now! Titles include "Opposite", "Concentrations", "Subways", "Kate", "Stranger", "Tish Le Dire", "Get It Out Of Your System" and "Something". (Limited edition of 500 copies! – LP comes with a really cool little glossy page book that's pretty lavishly illustrated – with some historical notes and tons of photographs, including live and promo shots, show fliers, press clippings and more!)  © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
