Warne Marsh Quartet Featuring Joe Albany Live At Dana Point 1957

Key work from tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh – recorded at a crucial point in his career, and in a setting that brings out the best in his horn! Warne's studio work of the 50s has been well documented elsewhere – partially because there's so little of it, and all of it so great – but in a live mode, the full range of his talents really come out – especially his rich ability to unfold, open up, and improvise like few other players of his generation. This 1957 date was recorded with surprisingly great sound – and has Marsh playing in a quartet with the great Joe Albany on piano – another under-recorded talent from the west coast scene, and a player who's wonderfully matched here with Marsh's modern, yet soulful approach to the tenor. The 2CD set features a huge amount of material – and opens up a whole new light on this part of Warne's career.
