One of Isaac Hayes' richest soundtracks – deeper and more complicated than the groove of Shaft and Truck Turner, and filled with some great tunes that glow with color, life, and imagination – showing an Isaac Hayes that almost seems to be moving beyond the usual blackploitation groove! The album sports 2 really classic tunes – the title theme "Tough Guys", and the classic "Hung Up On My Baby" – both of which have a solidly funky feel that will more than please the usual soundtrack beathead crowd. But overall, the other tunes twist and turn in a delightful mix of modes – expanding on the soulful territory Ike first explored in his original soundtracks, and offering up a great range of moods and emotion. The album's got some especially great chromatic guitar work – and other titles include "Joe Bell", "Randolph & Dearborn", "Buns O Plenty", "Run Fay Run", and "Red Rooster". (Quadraphonic pressing. Cover has some wear, quadraphonic sticker and a cutout notch.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Inside Of Me
RCA, 1981. Very Good+
A killer batch of clubby soul from Esther Williams with a great New York sound! Inside Of Me a perfect example of the kind of excellent material that verges on disco, but which still keeps things pretty darn soulful. Released in '81, it's steeped in the warm, timeless and beautifully well ... LP, Vinyl record album

There's A Riot Goin' On
Epic, 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness. Despite the political tone implied by the "riot" in the title and the co-option of the American ... LP, Vinyl record album
