The second album done by David Axelrod for The Electric Prunes – and arguably the best! The album's a bit unusual, in that none of the original Prunes were actually working on the session – and instead, Axlerod's almost fully at the helm – putting together the set in a way that's quite similar to his own solo albums over at Capitol! As with those, there's a bold, spacious sort of instrumentation here – richly orchestral, but also quite funky at times – punctuated by great drums from Earl Palmer, bass from Carol Kaye, keyboards from Don Randi, and guitar from Howard Roberts – who's really tripping out nicely here! The work uses the Jewish Kol Nidre mass as its conceptual locus – but really takes off with plenty of tripped-out Axelrod flourishes that make the whole thing a fair bit more psychedelic than anything you'd ever hear in temple. Titles include "Holy Are You", "The Adoration", "Our Father, Our King", "Kol Nidre", and "General Confessional".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Factory/Rhino, 1986. New Copy
The steely cover's an apt one – as New Order have still largely held onto their edge here – those raspy guitars and moodier moments that first marked their early work – all elements that keep things compelling amidst some of the more tuneful moments of the songs! There's ... LP, Vinyl record album

MGM, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
Incredible! This album is a masterpiece of subtle rock beauty, and it's still one of our favorite albums of all time. After the onslaught of the band's second album, White Light/White Heat, the Velvets laid back, toned down, and turned out this fantastic album of wonderfully crafted little songs. ... Cotillion, 1970. New Copy (reissue)
The end of the road for the Velvets – but also one of the group's longest-lasting legacies! The sound is tighter than on earlier albums, with a bit more of a somber post-fix approach to rock and roll – one that really points towards the direction Lou Reed would take in his own work, ... Columbia, 1973. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)
One of the wildest records of the early 70s – and it's still pretty darn hard to argue with the power of this one – even if the meddling of the producers is nearly as legendary as the album itself! There's still such a manic energy to the original release mix – one that clearly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Patti Smith's first album and one of greatest rock albums of the 70s! Pure, driving passion powers Patti as profoundly as it ever would here on horses. Nice one! This is a groovy reissue of the soundtrack to Milano Violenta, written by Enrico Pieranunzi and Silvano Chimenti, and performed by the funky studio group Pulsar Music Ltd. One of the hippest Italian soundtracks of the 60s – and a motherlode of tracks by the great Piero Piccioni!
