Yezemed Yebaed – Ethio Experience (DVD)

A double-package of music – bringing together a contemporary ensemble dedicated to Ethio grooves, and the legendary singer Etenesh Wassie – all in a loving tribute to Ethiopian sounds from the 60s and 70s! The set features two different films, both based around performances by the group Le Tigre Des Platanes and Wassie. Yezemed Yebaed is a really lovely portrait in pictures and sound – mixing live and studio performances by the artists, and accompanying footage, with images shot on the streets of contemporary Ethiopia, and some vintage film as well. Ethio-Experience was filmed during a recent live performance by Le Tigre Des Platanes and Etenesh Wassie – a bit more focused just on the live experience than the first film, but still pretty great stuff from a musical perspective!
