Smooth and sophisticated 80s soul from O'Bryan – most of it co-produced with Don Cornelius, of Soul Train fame, who helped O'Bryan get his start. The album's got a few tracks that go a bit over the top, but the better tunes are kicked back and nice and mellow – grooving in a modern Capitol Rare mode, with some slight pop soul touches added in on the vocals. Tracks include "It's Over", "Love Has Found A Way", "Doin Alright", "Can't Live Without Your Love", and "Still Water (Love)". (Cover has light wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Stormy Monday
Capitol, 1962. Very Good+
One of Lou's most jazz-oriented albums – featuring backing by Les McCann's famous trio with Leroy Vinnegar and Ron Jefferson, perfectly suited to Lou's soulful renditions of the tunes on the album. Most of the numbers are bluesy ones, but as usual, Lou manages to give them his own hip twist ... LP, Vinyl record album

Way It Is (aka Say My Friend)
Capitol, 1977. Very Good-
A fantastic bit of spacey soul – and an amazing collaboration between the Mizell Brothers and vocalist Rance Allen! The set's quite different than Rance's earlier, rootsier work for Stax – and instead has the soaring, joyous quality of some of the other great Mizell productions from ... LP, Vinyl record album

An early 80s classic from Melba Moore – best known for one of her biggest hits, "Love's Comin' At Ya", an enduring number that's got an irresistible groove! Do Me Baby
Capitol, 1986. Very Good+
A Capitol classic from Meli'sa Morgan – filled with sweet 80s grooves, and delivered with a style that's nicely lighter than some of her contemporaries! Morgan can still manage a nice hook when she wants, but the album's also got her working as a richer soul artist overall – eschewing ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, 1975. Near Mint-
A tasty set from Mandrill – one of their first records away from the Polydor label, but every bit as great as later efforts for that company, especially Mandrilland. The overall sound is a bit smoother than some of their full-out funky albums – but in a way that really helps blend ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chaka
Warner, 1978. Very Good
The classic late 70s solo debut by Chaka Khan – one that made Chaka a major star, and deservedly so! This beautiful album showed that she could stand very well on her own two feet without the help of Rufus, thank you. Of course, she's got some fantastic help from Arif Mardin, who works as ... One of the greatest blacksploitation soundtracks ever – a massively beautiful record that goes beyond any cliches of the genre, and serves up a fantastically unique batch of tracks! Chisoul arranger Johnny Pate did the music for the film – and (dare we say it?) it's even greater that ... LP, Vinyl record album
