The first indie release by Amel Larrieux – and a great one! Amel's sounding stronger than ever here – working in stripped-down territory that recalls her earlier work, yet which also put her in the forefront of underground soul artists keeping the genre fresh and strong. After years singing with Groove Theory, Sweetback, and on other projects, Larrieux's vocals are incredible – deeply-crafted, but never overdone and cloying – sliding around with a style that's sweet and righteous at the same time, and set here amidst arrangements that have some great twists and turns. Nicely defying cliche, Amel's got a sound here that's fresher than ever! Titles include "For Real", "Congo", "Sacred", "Giving Something Up", "Beyond", "All I Got", "Say You Want It All", and "Dear To Me".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Angie Stone's first for Saguaro Road – one that she's calling a more personal project than some of her recent work – and sure enough, it's a strong one! We actually dug Angie's couple of albums for the rebooted Stax label in the late 00s – but you know what, if Angie's happier ... CD

We love this album! The set's a classic batch of jazzy grooves from a combo who were first known as Sade's backing band – but who've rose to almost near-legendary fame through the strength of this set! The album's quite unique – and was even more so for the time – a cool, classy ... CD
