Reggae Is Here Once Again
LP (Item 597728) EM (Japan), 1979 — Condition: New Copy
One of the coolest steel bands we've ever heard – a London-based combo who mix together a wide array of Caribbean rhythms! The group were first brought together as something of an educational effort – a way to school kids on the post-colonial scene about the rich heritage of rhythms from the West Indies. But given the 70s London setting of their work, the group quickly picked up other influences too – bits of funk and reggae that really helped change their sound – and which makes the music here from being a simple rehash of older Caribbean modes! There's plenty of percussion in the lineup, and some slight guitar and bass touches too – and while most tracks have lyrics, they're also often a second priority to the grooves that drive the tunes. Titles include "Afro Punk Reggae (dub)", "Burning World", "Acid Rain", "Hi Life", "Reggae Is Here Once Again", "Fire In Soweto", and vocal and instrumental versions of "Lady". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
