CD (Item 614884) A&M/Raven (Australia), — Condition: New Copy

A pair of post-Parsons efforts from The Flying Burrito Brothers – unfairly overlooked and worthy country rock from the innovators! First up is the self-titled set, their first one after the departure of hipster hero Gram Parsons – and a pretty strong statement for the excellence of Rick Roberts, Chris Hilman, Sneaky Pete and the rest, along with multi-instrumentalist new guy Bernie Leadon, who would later turn to the dark side and co-found The Eagles. Roberts penned or co-penned 7 of the albums 10 tunes, including "Colorado", "Hand To Mouth", "Just Can't Be", and "Four Days Of Rain". His contributions are for the most part nicely fragile, with just the right doses of sweetness and sadness. The group also covers Merle Haggard's "White Line Fever", Gene Clark's "Tried So Hard", and Dylan's "To Ramona". The live "Last Of The Red Hot Burritos" was the final album of this period of Burrito history, an energetic set that's heavy with classics from the first couple albums, including "Devil In Disguise", "Six Days On The Road", "My Uncle", "High Fashion Queen" and more. You miss Gram's voice on those tracks, but that's the only complaint!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
