A jazz funk masterpiece, and THE record by the legendary Don Blackman – the only one issued under his own name for many many years, and a famous little set that's been sampled endlessly over the years, and for good reason! The vibe here is one that's barely been matched again – a blend of 70s fusion, bassy funk, and even tighter riffing – all put together with a greater depth and sense of soul than most other records of its type. Blackman's a GRP contemporary of Bernard Wright, Tom Browne, and Weldon Irvine – and there's bits of all their sound in the work here, but somehow Don does it even better – hitting these grooves, notes, and lines that seem to fall from the heavens – and which still stand as some of the hippest music of his generation. A record to file proudly next to your copies of Ramp and James Mason – and like those gems, the kind of record that only happens once in an artists career! Titles include "You Ain't Hip", "Yabba Dabba Do", "Heart's Desire", "Deaf Hook Up Connection", "Never Miss A Thing", and "Holding You Loving You", and "Since You Been Away So Long".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kedzie, 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
A really great chapter in the long and funky history of the musicians that also played in Lafayette Afro Rock Band and Cane & Abel – and a cool little set that may be one of the best records to ever come from the collective! The players work here as Ice – and come across like some ... LP, Vinyl record album

ARC, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A very hip tribute to Otis Redding – one that has The Majestics hitting hard in an instrumental mode that's almost like some of the Mar-Keys or Bar-Kays work on Stax from the mid 60s – tight drums on the bottom, Hammond and guitar grooving in the middle, and some occasional horns ... First Minute Of A New Day
Arista/TVT, 1975. New Copy (reissue)
Gil Scott Heron's first album for Arista – very much in the mellow soul jazz work of his legendary album on Strata East! The record features some wonderfully moody jazz backing that really marks a shift in Gil's style – never going too far over the top, but hitting a sweet groove that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Quazar
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
Tight funky soul from Quazar! This relatively overlooked group is one of the lesse-remembered P-Funk-linked acts of the late 70s – which is a shame, as it's a great little side project from the team of Glenn Goins and Jerome Brailey – and one with a bass and drums-heavy party groove! ... Dresses Too Short
Twinight/Numero, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
The funkiest album that Syl Johnson ever recorded – filled with short, tight cuts that play more like a stack of funky 45s than the standard soul album of the time! The record draws from the great run of singles that Syl cut for Twinight Records at the end of the 60s – some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heavy Light/Light In The Attic, 1970s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold
Blistering funk rock and raw, tightly grooving psych soul from small town Victoria, TX – trailblazing material from Kool & Together.
