CD (Item 588628) Heptagon (Sweden), 1965 — Condition: New Copy
Extremely playful work from pianist Jan Johansson – working here with arrangements from Bengt Arne Wallin, on a host of short tracks that are almost like little soundtrack compositions – or better yet, like brief little portraits in sound! The music ranges from spare and contemplative, to quirky and cartoony – and instrumentation varies often, so that there's usually some sort of main element in the lead – harpischord, organ, woodwinds, or even something that sounds like a calliope – all shifting over the shorter tunes that make up most of the CD – with an overall feel that's almost like some of the soundtrack/library records issued by the Trunk label in recent years. Towards the end, though, the album shifts into some longer tracks – mostly arranged by Johansson – with more jazz-based modes, and solos from players who include Lennard Aberg on tenor, Rune Gustafsson on guitar, Arne Domnerus on alto sax, Rolf Ericson on trumpet, and Johansson himself on organ. Titles include "Tre Sma Gummor", "Byssan Lull", "Arbetsbyte", "Polsikonstapeln", "Nej Se Det Snoar", and "Trollmors Vaggsang". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
