Hits Of Sinatra/Portraits Of Johnny Mathis

Out Of Stock

Add Item to Want List
CD (Item 595183) Vocalion (UK), 1964/1965 — Condition: New Copy

Instrumental versions of hits from two different singers! Hits Of Sinatra features full orchestrations from Robert Farnon on a host of material made big by Ol' Blue Eyes – including a fair bit of the Sammy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen numbers that led off some of Sinatra's best albums for Capitol! In keeping with the Farnon approach, the backings are heavy on strings, but still have a relatively lean feel too – almost a Nelson Riddle sort of style – on tunes that include "In The Wee Small Hours", "Come Fly With Me", "The Second Time Around", "All The Way", and "Young At Heart". A Portait Of Johnny Mathis is a great tribute to the velvet-voiced singer – and one that features some jazz elements stepping out of the larger orchestrations – with work by Shake Keane on flugelhorn, Kenny Baker on trumpet, Johnny Scott on flute, Bob Burns on alto, and Don Lusher on trombone! Titles include "Misty", "It's Not For Me To Say", "When Sunny Gets Blue", "A Certain Smile", "Gina", "Wonderful Wonderful", and "What Will Mary Say".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
