CD (Item 612164) Made In Germany (Germany), 1973 — Condition: New Copy

Tremendous sounds from Karthago – an overlooked German group from the early 70s, but one who's got the chops to challenge their bigger inspirations in the Anglo rock world of the time! There's a dexterity to Karthago's groove that comes through right from the start – not that overdone virtuosity that some European groups could toss off, but without any soul – nor the too-jamming mode that often collapsed under its own weight – and instead, this rock-solid approach that's right on the money – mixing tight instrumentation with punched-up rhythms, yet all in a way that's fluid and organic – the sort of magic blend that even only a handful of Brit groups managed to hit this well. And while things are tight, they're never commercial – and the vocals have this raspy mode with plenty of bluesy undercurrents – just what you might expect from the freaky image of the group on the cover, and showing their love of American modes too. Titles include "Wild River", "California Gigging", "Pacemaker", "I Don't Care", "Oberbaum Bridge", and "Don't Send Me Your Money Send Me Your Heart". CD features 2 bonus tracks – "Going Down", and "Jonny B Goode".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
