The soaring debut of one of the greatest groups of the disco era – and one that would go onto be the sound of Salsoul Records too! The large mostly-instrumental ensemble is headed up by Vince Montana – who brings plenty of Philly disco touches into play with the group's wonderful blend of tight rhythms, jazzy instrumentation, and full strings – a blend that comes off perfectly, and with a surprisingly lean groove – thanks to Montana's vision, and help from arranger Ron Baker too. There's some surprisingly funky moments at times – that sharp edge of the Sigma Sound rhythm section – and titles include "Chicago Bus Stop", "Salsoul Rainbow", "Salsoul Hustle", "Tangerine", and "You're Just The Right Size". (Spine has a spot of tape & a small rip. Cover has a cutout hole & edge wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Bodyheat
Polydor, 1976. Near Mint-
An enduring classic from James Brown – quite possibly the strongest of his late 70s albums, and a record that nicely balances the harder funk of the early part of the decade with a more sophisticated style that almost gets slightly jazzy at times! The vocals are planted strongly at the top ... LP, Vinyl record album

You're So Beautiful
Warner, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold
The last album recorded by Charles Wright with the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – and a set that's even more stretched out and trippy than their other albums! Gone are the tight short cuts of earlier days, and in their place are longer messed-up funky numbers that have more of a jamming ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pointer Sisters
Blue Thumb, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Their first album, and the one that's got their big version of Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can" – which starts with a nice break, too! Other tracks include "Sugar", "Pains & Tears", "Jasa", "River Boulevard", and "Cloudburst". ... LP, Vinyl record album

Where Love Is
Atco, 1970. Very Good+
Obscure LA pop soul group that featured singer Jerry Peters (who later went onto record under his own name), and who were "presented" by Sonny & Cher! The feel of the tracks are a bit in the 5th Dimension/Friends Of Distinction LA sound, with a bit more soul. Peters did the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wonderful work from Ingram – an incredibly talented soul family who'd spent more than enough time woodshedding in earlier years, and emerged to become one of the strongest mainstream acts of the 80s scene! There's a solid feel here that goes way beyond commercial soul – a great way ... LP, Vinyl record album

Volunteered Slavery
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Our favorite album ever from Roland Kirk – and a beautiful mix of two different sides of his genius! Side one's got Roland doing these crazy takes on late 60's pop cuts like "My Cherie Amour" and "Say a Little Prayer", plus his own "songs", done with soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album
