Finnish fusion from the 70s – an extremely well-crafted set that shows once again that Finland's an untapped wellspring of guitar jazz in the modern age! The Harvest Band is headed by guitarist Jukka Syreniuys, who plays both acoustic and electric guitar – sometimes together on the same track, and always with an evocative style that's never too full-on or jamming – a fair bit more introspective, and less rockish than some of his contemporaries. Some tunes have a tight electric polish, but are still much more open than American mainstream fusion – while others bring in lyrical modes we especially love, an almost poetic quality that you're not always likely to find on a record of this nature. Other instrumentation include keyboards from Pekka Tyni, alto from Jari Perikomaki, and tenor from Jukka Unkila – and titles include "Peter & The Ram", "Let It Grow", "That's Why I Love You", "An Empty Town", and "Flyin High Runnin Fast". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
