I'm So Grateful (mono & stereo mixes)

CD (Item 581046) Checker/Righteous (UK), 1966 — Condition: New Copy

One of the most soulful gospel albums ever issued by Chess – the debut of singer Martha Bass, and a set that can almost stand up to other 60s label classics by artists like Mitty Collier or Fontella Bass! Gene Barge handles the arrangements, and things are nice and lean – just a bit of piano or organ vamping along with rhythm, but mostly letting Martha's vocals sing out loud and proud in the lead – with a bold, righteous style that hardly ever needs any other sort of accompaniment! Titles include "I'm So Grateful", "What Manner Of Man Is This", "Be Still", "I'm Getting Nearer My Home", "Mother's Plea", and "Everybody Will Be Happy". CD also features full stereo and mono mixes of the album!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
