A tripped-out batch of tracks from Brazil! These guys mix together a bit of funk, a bit of psych, and touches of Jorge Ben-like soul – into a blend that's really groovy all the way through, and which will be sure to please any fan of the Samba Soul groove! Jorge Ben's influence is all over the set – filtered through some garagey production that makes the tracks sound rawer than any of Ben's own work, and which give the guitars a nice fuzzed out edge. The whole thing's almost psychedelic at times, but has a fair bit of soul as well – and titles include "Gotham City", "Que Maravilha", "Carolina, Carol Bela", "Modulo Lunar", "Volkswagen Blue", "Feitico", "Espiral", and "Momento B/8".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Odeon/Light In The Attic, 1970. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
Some of the most brilliantly baroque work ever recorded by Marcos Valle – an obscure 1970 album that collects together tunes from a few of his odd soundtrack experiments of the late 60s, plus a few others that are in a very similar vein! Bossa Tres
Audio Fidelity, 1963. New Copy (reissue)
Amazing bossa jazz from one of Brazil's best combos! The Bossa Tres were led by dynamic pianist Luis Carlos Vinhas – an incredibly strong talent who was as great an arranger as he was a piano player – and on this early session, he's at his most firey, really flowing out with tremendous ... Polydor, 1972. New Copy (reissue)
One of the hardest rocking albums ever cut by Os Mutantes – a record that's got a slightly ironic take on rock and roll styles of the time – still performed with the sense of drama and humor that always made the band so great! Kalabuley Woman
Hot Casa (France), 1977. New Copy (reissue)
The album's only got two long tracks – but both of them are more than enough to make it great! "Kalabuley Woman" takes up all of side one – and the tune's got this wickedly dubby approach to funk – almost like Cymande at the start, but then filled up with all these ... LP, Vinyl record album

Strut (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2 LPs
No horsing around here – as the set may well be the most compelling so far in this mighty hip series – a wicked blend of underground club from the post-disco and post-punk generation! The tracks here definitely push towards the more obscure side of the spectrum, and really show the way ... LP, Vinyl record album

A stellar set from one of the most underrated reed players of all time – a brilliant bit of searching soul jazz, cut at a time when Curtis Amy was leaving behind his Texas roots for the new sounds of the Coltrane generation! The album's quite different than the organ and tenor dates that Amy ... LP, Vinyl record album
