CD (Item 597962) 20th Century/Intrada, 1960/1961 — Condition: New Copy

A pair of dramatic adventure scores – back to back on a single CD! The Lost World is a great one from the early days of Irwin Allen's fantasy/special effects years – and is scored here by Paul Sawtell and Burt Shefter with a mixture of the lush and exotic – almost similar to Italian peplum scores of the time, especially in the way the woodwinds interplay with the larger orchestrations – although with Lionel Newman conducting the music, there's also some fuller Hollywood touches at play too! CD presents 18 tracks from the film – including "The Institute", "Native Drums & Chants", "The Egg", "Dog's Life", and "Jungle Mystery". Five Weeks In A Balloon is an adventure film, but one that's a bit whimsical too – and scored here by Paul Sawtell with lots of light little touches that are mighty nice! The main vocal theme has a peppy vocal group approach that's almost in a Four Lads sort of style – and the instrumental tracks that follow have lots of twists and turns that are almost in the lighter style of 20th Century orchestral work. Titles include "Cute Chimp", "Jungle Landing", "Ballooneers Montage", "The Sand Storm", "The Auction", "Doom In The Offing", and "Expeditions Meet". Great 2CD package – with detailed notes and photos!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
