LP, Vinyl record album

4.80 11

A beautiful mix of gospel soul and heavy Memphis production – and the kind of heavy soul album that made Rance Allen one of Stax's best new artists during the 70s. David Porter produced and arranged, and the album has some great electric keyboard work by Rance that provides a perfect counterfoil for his rich baritone voice. The album's a lot more stripped down than later efforts – with a rootsy sound that should have made Rance even bigger with the crossover crowd. Titles include "Talk That Talk", "The Painter", "Ring My Bell", and "Harlem Heaven". (Cover has light wear, some aging, and partially split top and bottom seams.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Keep On Runnin'
Atlantic, 1975. Very Good-
The third album from Black Heat – and quite possibly the funkiest of the bunch – thanks to an even tighter sound than before, and lots of emphasis on the bottom of the groove! The group's got a few more members than before, but their sound is somehow even leaner – a really tight ... LP, Vinyl record album

Imaginations
20th Century, Mid 70s. Very Good-
An excellent group soul from Chicago – and no wonder, since The Imaginations were previously Brighter Side Of Darknes, a sublime falsetto harmony group who had a huge hit in 1972 with "Love Jones". This record's very much in the vein of that song – but also features a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joy & Pain
Capitol, 1980. Very Good+
Classic modern soul from the legendary Frankie Beverly! The record's perhaps one of their best remembered – most likely for the killer cut "Joy & Pain", which has a great hook that's been sampled many times over the years. The record also features the wonderful "Southern ... LP, Vinyl record album
