One of the grooviest records we've ever heard from guitarist Johnny Smith – a sweet batch of mellow tunes, played with some warm chromatic touches! Smith still has that wonderful tone here that he first exhibited on his 50s recordings, but he also works in a style that's a bit more fluid – cast in a small group setting, but somehow picking up the breezier touches of the Verve sound of the time – thanks to hip rhythms from Hank Jones on piano, George Duvivier on bass, and Don Lamond on drums. The shift in the Smith groove is mighty nice – and titles include "Walk Don't Run", "By Myself", "Choror Da Saudade", "Dreamsville", and "Old Folks". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
