Trumpet At Tempo – Howard McGhee On Dial – The Complete Sessions 1945 to 1947
CD (Item 610890) Spotlite (UK), 1945/1946/1947 — Condition: New Copy
The stuff of legend – some key early recordings from this famous trumpeter! Although Howard McGhee had a much harder road than some of the other early bop players – marred later by drug busts, failed "comeback" attempts, and other unfortunate twists – in the early days, he initially emerged as one of the movement's strongest players, especially on the west coast scene – as you'll hear on this set of early sides recorded for the legendary Dial label! The LP includes material recorded in both LA and New York – with other early boppers who include Teddy Edwards and James Moody on tenor, Hank Jones and Dodo Marmarosa on piano, and Roy Porter on drums – and titles include "Stop Time Blues", "Dilated Pupils", "Trumpet At Tempo", "Night Mist", "Coolerini", "Lifestream", "Dorothy", "Mop Mop", and "Thermodynamics". 23 tracks in all – including a few alternate takes too. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
