Spleen -- Early Recordings

Add to Cart$21.99 ... CD
CD (Item 486657) Creole Stream (Japan), Early 70s -- Condition: New Copy

Excellent bossa guitar work from Jose Barrense-Dias -- tracks from a pair of albums recorded in France, but with a soul that certainly has roots in Brazil! Most tunes have Jose on acoustic guitar with lively percussion -- a mode that's quite similar to Baden Powell's European recordings of the time, but less polished overall -- almost as if you were catching Barrense-Dias playing live at a small club, or on a street corner in Rio! One of the albums is live -- which certainly supports this feel -- but even the studio set has a similar quality too. Jose sings a bit on a few tracks, and there's also a bit of flute at points -- but the main focus is instrumental, with mostly just guitar and percussion for instrumentation. Titles include "Pedrinha", "Menita Bonita", "Liberdade Demais", "Contracanto", "Insensatez", "O Que A Gente Quer", "Batucada Na Bahia", and "Lassido".  © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
