CD (Item 612168) Motema, 2012 — Condition: New Copy

A really haunting mix of kora and trumpet – the former played by Ablaye Cissoko, who also sings along with his music – in a style that's extremely compelling! The spare recording features the two instruments recorded in a nicely echoey space – with some slight jazz inflections at times from trumpeter Volker Goetze, but mostly a focus on Cissoko's vocals, and the melody they provide alongside his kora – a really beautiful instrument that unfolds in lovely ways in the space of the open-ended tracks. There's no other instrumentation at all – and titles include "Silo", "Haiti", "Amanke Dionti", "Togna", "Kana Maloundi", and "Miliamba". CD also features an enhanced video too!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
