Round Seven/Team Work
CD (Item 536146) Inakustik (Germany), 1978/1987 — Condition: New Copy
A Euro fusion double-header – 2 albums in 1 sweet little package! First up is Round Seven – a later set from the United Jazz & Rock Ensemble, but one that shows them very much at the top of their game – bursting forth in a style that's mostly jazz fusion overall, but with some propulsive rhythms at points – clearly part of the "rock" in their name! The horn work is especially nice – trumpets from Ack Van Rooyen, Ian Carr, and Johannes Faber, trombone from Albert Mangelsdorff, and saxes from both Barbara Thompson and Charlie Mariano – the latter of whom doesn't always play with the group, and lends some nice exotic tones to the record. Titles include "Seriously Deep", "Raga Yagapriya", "Randy", "Raving Raven", and "Voices Behind Locked Doors". The second album has plenty of Teamwork – just the right sort of energy that made the UJRE one of the real survivors of the European fusion scene! The group's got a great balance on the set – never going too over the top, nor letting one player take over the spotlight for too long – a balance that helps them avoid some of the overdone moments of the jamming fusion groups of the 70s, and really concentrate on a cohesive sound as a whole! Charlie Mariano adds some great reeds to the group this time around – in a lineup that also features Wolfgang Dauner on keyboards, Ian Carr on trumpet, Volker Kriegel on guitar, and Albert Mangelsdorff on trombone. Titles include "To An Elfin Princess", "Yin", "War G'Schwind", "Gone With The Weed", and "Albert's Song". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
