Excellent funky George Benson – mellow grooving, never too over the top, but with a fantastic mellow groove that really points the way ahead to the CTI sound of the 70s! We'd dare say that this is Benson's best from the early solo years of the late 60s – and the record's got a groove that's at once complicated and appealingly funky! No wonder too, since he's got Idris Muhammad helping him out, working under his pre-conversion name of Leo Morris, plus Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Richard Davis, Johnny Pacheco and others. Titles include "Footin It", "Face It Boy, It's Over", "Shape Of Things To Come", and "Shape Of Things That Are & Were". (Original white label promo – nice and heavy, in in the cool matte gatefold, which has a promo stamp.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Canned Funk
CTI, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
Nothing canned here – as the sound, style, and groove of the record is as fresh and freaky as the classic image on the cover! The riffing rhythms get going right from the start – some amazing lines from a rhythm combo that includes Joe Beck on guitar, Herb Bushler on bass, Jim Madison ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Very Good+ 2 LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... Coldwater Flat
Blue Note, Late 60s. Very Good Gatefold
A brilliant pairing of the Three Sounds trio with the larger arrangements of reedman Oliver Nelson – easily one of the most soulful bandleaders of the 60s, and a talent who really helps open up the trio's groove! The piano of Gene Harris is nice and sharp – played with a soulful sock ... LP, Vinyl record album
