Incredibly great work from Machine – an album of disco tunes, but with a hipper, message-oriented feel than most of its contemporaries! The group will forever be known for their classic hit "There But For The Grace Of God Go I" – an infectious groover with a wild lyric about urban flight in the 70s – and they more than match the quality of that one with a host of other great tunes on the set that have a similar feel. Part of the credit should go to August Darnell, working here in a pre-Kid Creole way that throws in lots of jagged touches and some really wicked guitar to most of the tunes! Tracks include "There But For The Grace Of God Go I", plus "Mr. Destiny", "You've Come A Long Way Baby", "It's The Last Time Again", and "Marisa". (Side 2 has a mark that clicks a bit on track one. Cover has a "featuring" sticker on the front, another sticker on the back, and some light edge wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

The only album we've ever seen from the Swiss Movement, but a great group soul effort that's a real 70s standout on RCA! Nice moody batch of soul tracks by this great LA Chicano soul singer. The tracks include a number of pop covers, but as with his classic "California Dreamin", Jose manages to turn the material into his own bag, and makes the cuts come alive with his soulful singing and guitar playing. ... One of the best later albums by Chocolate Milk – a bit different than their earlier work with Allen Toussaint, but still bouncing along in a sweet 80s groove, with more than enough traces of their roots as a funky combo! A great album filled with hard breaks, tight choppy guitars, and a deep funky sound. This is one of the best early albums by the Nite Liters, and it's filled with great grooves like "Funky-Doo", "Stinkin Charlie", and "K-Jee" – but just about every track is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nice batch of funky soul instrumentals, arranged and conducted by studio genius and reedman Phil Bodner, and with a nice hard sound that's better than you'd expect from the hokey cover. Although they're best known for their hit "Mockingbird" (not on this album), Inez and Charlie were always pretty darn great, and had a raw male/female style in the vein of Ike & Tina or Mickey & Sylvia. One of their wildest and most beautiful LPs! By this point, Young & Holt getting past their usual funky Brunswick sound here, and they've opened up the groove a lot with lots of nice extra bits.
