John Cage Shock Vol 1

Add Item to Want List
CD (Item 619174) EM (Japan), 1962 — Condition: New Copy

Impressive recordings from John Cage's first trip to Japan – music performed in 1962, showing a very bold sense of the new! The music here was partially composed by Cage, and partially performed by him – and the set focuses on unusual compositional styles – some of the more graphic or event-based modes used by important 20th Century composers – both Cage and his contemporaries. The series also features great notes – in both English and Japanese – which further illuminate the unusual sounds within! This first volume features David Tudor and Yuji Takahashi performing Toru Takemitsu's "Corona For Pianists; Tudor and Kenji Kobayashi performing Christian Wolff's "Duo For Pianist & Violinist"; and Tudor and Cage performing Cage's "Variations II".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
