LP, Vinyl record album

4.50 46

A classic full album that brings together some of Muddy Waters' earliest recordings for Chess – a great collection of early singles recorded in Chicago between 1950 and 1954 – most originally issued on 78rpm singles, and beautifully presented in this set! The work's relatively spare and rootsy overall – a great example of Chicago blues in its formative years, with some traces of a more southern style still in the mix – and titles include "Hoochie Coochie Man", "I'm Ready", "Rollin Stone", "Honey Bee", "She Moves Me", "I Can't Be Satisfied", "Standing Around Crying", "Long Distance Call", and "I Just Want To Make Love To You". (Orange label 70s pressing. Cover has a cut corner and peeling from moisture on the bottom 3 inches.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Folk Singer
Chess, 1963. Very Good+
A seminal album by Muddy – recorded in a style that's rootsier, and more down to earth than a lot of his other chess sides! Muddy's playing acoustic guitar, and the rest of the group features Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, and Clifton James. The sound is really spare, and very moody – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bummer Road
Chess, 1957/1958/1960. Very Good+
No bummer here, as the set's a really great one – filled with late 50s Chess Records sides by Sonny Boy Williamson – a number of which are previously unissued! The package does a great job of reviving this material for a newly-informed blues audience of the modern age – giving ... LP, Vinyl record album

More Real Folk Blues
Chess, 1967. Very Good
A much earlier set of tracks than the first volume of Real Folk Blues from Howlin Wolf – mostly material recorded in the mid 50s, both in Chicago and Memphis – all with a really nitty gritty sort of feel! There's a rough and rootsy mode going on here – one that has Wolf's raspy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Super Blues
Chess, 1967. Very Good-
A Chicago blues trifecta – and the first time ever that Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, and Little Waters ever worked together! The set's got a raw power that definitely lives up to the title – a wicked mix of raw guitars, rough rhythms, and some wonderfully soulful vocals – all served ... LP, Vinyl record album

One Way Out
Chess, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint-
A great little collection of work that Sonny Boy Williamson recorded for Chess in the 50s and early 60s – presented here as one of the well-done archival packages that Chess was doing in the early 70s, as interest in their classics was coming back again. Is it Fulsom or Fulson? We're not going to try and present ourselves as the authority, but what we can tell you is this collection features 27 tracks from the man, mostly raw blues, though a number of cuts are more produced, with full horn section and piano complementing Fulsom's guitar and vocals ... Memphis Slim
Chess, Early 50s. Near Mint-
Really tremendous work from Memphis Slim – a set of early 50s recordings for Chess Records, most of which have a style that mixes equal parts jazz and blues! Slim's definitely got some bluesy phrasing in his piano, but he also echoes an older generation of jazz pianists too – ... LP, Vinyl record album

BB King in London – not playing live, but working in the studio with a host of British musicians he'd inspired over the years! One of the most important string bands of the early 30s – heard here on some seminal sides recorded both in Texas and Mississippi!
