Johnny Guitar Watson — Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty ... CD 7.99

Tripped-out funk from Johnny – very much in his "I Got To Ta Ta Ya Baby" mode, with the guitar skipping around keyboards in a mellow Bay Area kind of way! Johnny's gone way way past his bluesy roots here – into a sublime blend of soul and funk that's all crafted with just the right amount of lightly spacey touches. The Watson vocals are totally on the money throughout – sliding into the mix in that seductive way that often has Johnny singing beautifully alongside his guitar. Titles include "It's All About The Dollar Bill", "Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty", "Barn Door", "Love That Will Not Die", 'I'm Gonna Get You Baby", "Give Me My Love", and "It's A Damn Shame". (Cover has some light wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Hung Up On You
Pride, 1973. Near Mint-
Nice one! Jerry Butler's brother Billy recorded for more labels than you'd expect over the years – but this is only one of three full LPs that he ever cut. The album's a stellar batch of harmony soul tracks – as perfectly for the early 70s harmony scene as Billy's late 60s work on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sylvers
Pride, 1972. Good+
The first album by The Sylvers – a hard soulful band made up of youngsters from LA, but who had a lot more going on than some of the other kiddie-soul bands of the early 70s! The group's a sextet at this point, with four male voices and two female ones – coming across as a sweet blend ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arista, 1977. Very Good
The second album by this legendary 70s funk combo – best known as Herbie Hancock's backing band, but sounding great here on their own. The album's much more of a solid soul effort than the first one – which was great, but felt more like Herbie had stepped out of the studio for a minute ... LP, Vinyl record album
