A smoking little set that burns every bit as hard as previous entries in the Beginners Guide To Salsa series – and maybe stands out even more, given that the package is filled with a great range of contemporary tracks as well! CD 1 features Salsa Classica – with cuts from the 70s, plus a few from later years – almost all of them lesser-known gems that go way past the obvious – and way past what you might expect from a "beginners" set like this. Titles include "Bochinchosa" by Los Hermanos Moreno, "Campesino" by Ray Martinez, "Echate Pa'Alla" by Adalberto Santiago, "El Nuevo Gozo" by Nelson Feliciano, "Sensaciones" by Conjunto Classico, and "Cimientos" by Vitin Aviles. CDs 2 and 3 bring together more contemporary cuts – an excellent batch of tunes from the current Latin underground, and more than enough to get you digging for ghese gems on indie labels.
