CD (Item 571162) Jazzland (Norway), 2010 — Condition: New Copy

Deeply complicated work from Motif – and a great package that really offers up a number of different facets of this contemporary Scandinavian combo! The music here is all relatively free, but at points never too outside – and coming together with an inherent structure that puts Motif somewhere in the same territory as labelmates Atomic – although we're tempted to say that their sound is even more bold and powerful overall! The lineup shifts from disc to disc – as the material was recorded over a period of years, in a few different locations – but the core group always seems to feature Atle Nymo on tenor and bass clarinet, Havard Wiik on piano, Eivind Lonning on trumpet, Hakon Mjaset Johansen on drums, and Ole Morten Vagan on bass. Other players on some dates include Hakon Kornstad on tenor, Petter Vagan on guitar, and Mattias Stahl on vibes. The set features 3CDs worth of music – all packaged in a sweet case!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
