A great little set – very subtle, very jazzy, and very cool! The title says "Soul Bossa Nova" – but the overall feel is more of a blend of styles: a bit of soul jazz, a bit of modal jazz, and slight touches of the Brazilian rhythms hinted at in the title. There's some really great tunes on here that we'd nearly forgotten about – rare gems hidden on older Atlantic and Warner LPs, sparkling nicely next to each other in a set of 11 tracks that includes "Coral Keys" by Freddie Hubbard, "Ayerloom" and "In The Limelight" by Roy Ayers, "Echoes Of Primitive Ohio & Chili Dogs" by Roland Kirk, "Paper Man" by Herbie Mann, "Brother" by Yusef Lateef, "Manchild" by Nat Adderley, "Samba Do Empashgi" by Shorty Rogers, and "Nana" by Sergio Mendes. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
