Al Santiago Presents Tambo
CD (Item 605056) Montuno, 1975 — Condition: New Copy
One of the earliest records on the Montuno, and one of the best too – a killer batch of Latin jazz numbers that really sets a whole new standard for the 70s! Al Santiago's at the helm of the session, and he guides the musicians with all the care of his older recordings from back in the day – allowing for plenty of open, descarga-like instrumentation – yet also bringing in a nice set of focus, too. Players include Johnny Almendra on timbales, George Haskins and Gilbert Colon on piano, John Purcell on baritone sax, Dave Chamberlin on flute and trombone, and Mike Ortiz and Charlie Affelt on trumpets.
