David Pic Conley Bossa Quintet
CD (Item 600575) Love Town (UK), 2012 — Condition: New Copy
Way more than just a bossa jazz album – although as one of those, it's pretty darn great as well! David Pic Conley is a wonderfully soulful flutist who you might know from his work in Surface – with a gliding depth that reminds us a lot of the best European work of Leo Wright or Chris Woods – especially the latter, as the vibe here is a lot like the blend of jazz and Brazilian modes you'd find on Woods' classic collaborations with pianist Marco Di Marco! The record's got some great Fender Rhodes alongside Conley's flute lines – and rhythms sparkle with great acoustic guitar, bass, and percussion – delivered in a way that references bossa roots, but goes way past the obvious – like the way the genre really transformed in the 70s on records from the MPS scene, or the Italian jazz community. Titles include "The Dolphin", "Blue Bossa", "Art The Pimp", "Brigas Nunca Mais", "Slick", "Agua De Beber", and "Wave". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
