Great sounds from the Carla Bley band of the 80s – and a record that still has all the modern elements of Bley's initial years in jazz, but also brings in some warmer elements too! If anything, these years unlocked a playfulness that we might not have expected from Carla years before – and also help focus on a soulful style that really comes through with the larger lineup here – one that's filled with modern players, but who seem to work together almost as a commentary on more mainstream modes of the time – familiar, yet still slightly offbeat at points too. The lineup features Michael Mantler on trumpet, Steve Slagle on alto and soprano sax, Tony Dagradi on tenor, Gary Valente on trombone, Vincent Chancey on French horn, Arturo O'Farrill on piano, Steve Swallow on bass, and Bley on organ – and titles include "Blunt Object", "Still In The Room", "Song Sung Long", "Real Life Hits", and "Time & Us".
