Live At Kassiopeia
LP (Item 587353) No Business (Lithuania), 1987 — Condition: New Copy
A great mix of solo and duo performances from reedman Julius Hemphill and bassist Peter Kowald – recorded together live in the late 80s, with lots of wonderful open space to really do their thing! The first part of the set features some amazing soprano and alto sax solo work from Hemphill – recorded in a soulful style that's beautifully mature, yet blown with all the raw freshness of his best early sessions too! Then, Kowald follows up with a solo bass piece that's mindblowing – a great reminder of what Peter brought to avant bass work at the time – an ability to really invent compelling new sounds and dimensions of the instrument, while always retaining this musicality we really love. Obviously, that pairing with Hemphill's horn sounds great – as you'll hear on the second disc in the set – which features two short duos, and one very long track! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
