Beautiful work from the great Ebo Taylor – long tracks filled with the kind of grooves that have made him a funky favorite over the years – and which have kept him going strong into the 21st Century! There's a really unique feel to this record – lots of jazzy inflections that go way beyond some of the standard riffing of Afro Funk – underscored by this positive energy that's a bit hard to describe, but which comes through right away on first listen – almost some of the righteousness of the American spiritual underground, but definitely more Afro-styled overall. Instrumentation features some great tenor, alto, and flute – and guitars and keyboards are handled by Ebo himself. Titles include "You Need Love", "Love & Death", "What Is Life", and "Victory". Heavy funk from the Bahamas – a whole bunch of groups that will show you that Nassau had a lot more to offer than The Beginning Of The End! Incredible! This is a stunning set of African-inspired jazzy percussion tracks – similar to some of the work done by Art Blakey on his Orgy In Rhythm albums, but with a lot better horn work, and with an overall conception that's much more unified! An incredible blend of sounds and styles – and one of the most enigmatic albums we've ever heard from the Ethiopian scene! Philips/Domino Sound, 1973. New Copy
Rare Ethiopian material from the early 70s – ostensibly a set of wedding-related tracks, but with grooves that are every bit as great as classics in the Ethiopiques series! Mississippi/Little Axe/Domino Sound, 1976. New Copy
One of the rarer Ethiopian recordings we've heard from the 70s – and one of the most compelling, too! The sounds here are just as haunting as more familiar Ethiopian music, but also have a nicely unbridled feel too – almost a bit rough at times, especially in the way the rhythms unfurl ...
