Sea Shells
CD (Item 601385) Decca (Japan), 1955 — Condition: New Copy
One of the strangest albums ever released by Peggy Lee! The record is a perfect showcase for her haunting voice, and has her singing some extremely spare tracks, with minimal arrangements behind her, and a dark brooding quality throughout. The record has somber washes of harp and harpsichord, which really give a strange quality to the record – and almost make it feel like an early session by Nico. We'd never guessed that Peggy could sound so dark – and the tracks are a very odd mix of material with folksy touches. Titles include "A Brown Bird Singing", "Sea Fever", "Nine Thorny Thickets", "Of Such Is The Kingdom Of God", and "Chinese Love Poems". Very strange – and very beautiful!
