Stop, Look & Listen (180 gram pressing)
LP (Item 559483) Heavenly Sweetness (France), 1972 — Condition: New Copy
A rare spiritual jazz set from Belgium, led by pianist Raphael – a ecord that precious little known about, but it's a truly great one! Phil Raphael is a born New Yorker, but this set was made while he was living Belgium and it features a group of players from the Brussels scene, including Johnny Peret on vibes, bells and bongo (and he gets a lot of space to shine in the set), bassis Paul Dubois, drummer Robert Pernet and vocalist Rose Thompson. The music is the right kind of unclassifably cool, with a jazziness that goes back to bebop plus airy, kind of psych jazz informed movements, and some evocative kind of dramatic bits, courtesy Thompson's worldless vocals. Includes a pair of pretty long pieces in "Archangelo" and "Dead Sea Scrolls", plus the shorter (but still between 6 and 10 minutes) numbers "Hommage A Kabylie" and "Night Crawler". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
