Non-stop grooving from Slave – a record that has them losing the lead talents of Steve Arrington, but not missing a beat! As with Showtime, the sound here is a nicely smoothed-out approach to the bassy funk the group helped forge at the end of the 70s – a more soul-based sound that still keeps things funky, yet which also stays away from the tricks, gimmicks, and too over the top sort of styles that were hurting some groups at the time. There's plenty of great bass parts and snapping drums, all next to filtered harmonies on the vocals that sweeten the album in just the right way. Titles include "Do You Like It Girl", "I'll Be Gone", "Friday Nites", "Sweet Thang", and "Be My Babe". (Cover & labels have some pen. Spine has some residue.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Born Again
Cotillion, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
A sophisticated batch of jazzy tracks that really opens the group's style up way way past the stock form of some of their Brunswick recordings. The band's clearly taken on a more spiritual bent for this one – as you can probably guess from the Afro-madonna cover – and the music ranges ... LP, Vinyl record album

Enchantment
United Artists, 1976. Very Good+
Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! The album's one of the group's greatest – and certainly one that's been very well-remembered around these parts – thanks to some rock-solid arrangements from Johnny ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1979. Very Good+
Sublime work from Frankie Beverly and Maze – smooth, mellow, and perfectly put together, with a level of care and class that you'd be hard pressed to find in many of the group's contemporaries! The album's not one of the group's most famous, but that makes it even more of a treat, as you'll ... LP, Vinyl record album
