A great little Brazilian group from the 70s – one who continues the harmony styles of Sergio Mendes in the 60s, but takes the music into some groovy new directions! The sounds here are more samba than bossa – with guitar and percussion dancing nicely together in the rhythms as group members sing sweetly over the top – and both piano and keyboards adding in some nicely jazzy inflections to the groove, often with the more sophisticated phrasings you might expect in some of the EMI/Odeon work from earlier in the decade. Sivuca joins the group on both accordion and moog (!) – and the whole thing's got a sweetly-grooving style that's totally great! Titles include "Estatutos De Gafiera", "Loteca", "Amor Em Jacuma", " Iboru Iboya", "Beijo Baiano", "O Trem Atrazou", "Asa Branca", and "Fogo Pago".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Softly
Capitol, 1965. New Copy (reissue)
A lost bossa classic from Wanda De Sah – aka Wanda Sa, the wife of Edu Lobo, and a singer who worked with Sergio Mendes in his pre-Brasil 66 days! The album's got a wonderfully laidback feel – languid, yet jazzy, with the feel of some of Astrud Gilberto's best work on Verve, yet with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Astrud Gilberto Now
Perception, 1972. New Copy (reissue)
Killer work by Astrud Gilberto – very different than her Verve sides of the 60s! The album was produced by Astrud, arranged by Deodato – and has that wonderful warm full jazz feel of her classic album on CTI, but also a bit more like some of the funky work of Jorge Ben at the time ... Donato-Deodato
Muse, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
The legendary meeting of the two biggest Brazilian keyboard talents of the 70s – Joao Donato and Eumir Deodato – coming together in beautifully funky formation! The sound is a great blend of the moody electric work of Donato's classic Quem E Quem album, and some of the fuller, funkier ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1965. New Copy (reissue)
That's Brasil 65, not Brasil 66 – a distinction that marks a key early stage for the great Sergio Mendes – heard here on one of his first albums to mix together bossa jazz and vocals! The approach here is a bit more like vintage bossa dates from Brazil – or a bit like some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mutantes Ao Vivo
Som Livre (Brazil), 1976. New Copy (reissue)
A rare live album recorded by the Mutantes during the years after Rita Lee and Arnaldo Baptista left the group, and when the only surviving original member Sergio Dias turned the group into a very competent progressive rock outfit. The sound is very different than their early albums, but it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

20/20/20, 2013. New Copy Gatefold
Really wonderful work from Alexandre Kassin – easily one of the most important contemporary figures in Brazilian music of the past decade or two! Kassin's best known on these shores for his work with Moreno Veloso and Domenico – but he's also had a hand in countless collaborations with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milestone/Far Out (UK), 1979. New Copy (reissue)
One of Azymuth's best-remembered albums from their American years on Milestone – a really killer classic that beautifully blends Brazilian and American styles of fusion! There's a simple, elegant feel to these tunes that takes off nicely from the group's previous album for Atlantic in Brazil ... LP, Vinyl record album
