A mighty meeting of Motown and Memphis -- as Stax Records artists serve up their own versions of Motor City classics! Given the popularity of Motown in the 60s, it's no surprise that Stax artists covered their hits -- but even in a world of familiar tunes, the end results here are often quite different -- takes on the songs that are harder, heavier, and significantly deeper than anything Motown was doing at the time! As with The Beatles release in this series, this volume also features some unreleased material -- the cuts "Chained (alternate)" by Mavis Staples and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by The Bar-Kays -- plus first-time CD releases of the cuts "Ask The Lonely" by John Gary Williams and "I Wish It Would Rain" by OB McClinton. Other titles include "Oh Be My Love" by Barbara Lewis, "You've Got To Earn It" by Staple Singers, "I Don't Know Why I Love You" by David Porter, "Never Can Say Goodbye" by Isaac Hayes, and "Someday We'll Be Together" by Frederick Knight.
