Messed up funky soul from the Chicago scene – a beautiful package of rare singles from Little Ed & The Soundmasters! The style here is a bit hard to describe – as Ed and crew were schooled in blues, but brought up during the 60s soul underground – and clearly managed to pick up plenty of trippier elements from their generation as well! There must have been some heavy smoke in the studio when these grooves were recorded – because they've got plenty of cool effects on the guitars, and a weird echoey quality in lots of the production – pretty amazing stuff that's unlike most of the funk we've heard from the time. As usual, Numero have done a wonderful job with the whole thing – bringing together 6 rare tracks on 3 funky 45s – complete with a lovely box, and a detailed 7" booklet too. One track features Johnny Dollar – and titles include "Your Love Has Got Me", "Struggling For Survival", "It's A Dream", "The Ghetto Grind", and "Petite Soul".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

The title's a reference to a once-famous ad campaign, but the groove is pure funky soul all the way through – from the sweet break that starts the single, to the soaring lead vocals that really make the whole thing wonderful! The bump here is a gentle one – a cool slow funk start to a track that turns out to be just the kind of mellow harmony number we love so much! Great electro funk from Flyte Time – with cool keyboards over a bumping bassline – and a tight ensemble approach that belies these guys' role in the Twin Cities scene! The tune's got raw guitar riffing along with the vocals – and the cut's backed by the mellow "I've Got You ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Rare late 70s Latin soul from Jade! "The Siesta Is Over" is a killer mix of styles – anchored strongly by funk, thanks of the limber bass line, JBs-inspired horns, raw drums and organ – but it's got a sunny vibe, too, thanks the groovy male and female harmony vocals.
