We think this may be his best album ever! Caught live at a small club, with a tight band, Curtis delivers extended, intimate versions of some of his best work, like "We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue" and "Stare and Stare". We can't recommend this highly enough, and there's 2 full LPs worth of stellar material that stands among some of the best soul of the 70s! Other tracks include "Check Out Your Mind", "Stone Junkie", "I Plan To Stay A Believer", and "The Makings Of You". Incredible!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Curtom, 1975. New Copy (reissue)
A great album by Curtis Mayfield – filled with some excellent lesser-known gems! There's No Place Like America was Curtis' scathing testament to the State Of The Union – and it's got a hip political tone that's right up there with the best of his early 70s songwriting – perhaps ... Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kedzie, 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
A really great chapter in the long and funky history of the musicians that also played in Lafayette Afro Rock Band and Cane & Abel – and a cool little set that may be one of the best records to ever come from the collective! The players work here as Ice – and come across like some ... LP, Vinyl record album

ARC, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A very hip tribute to Otis Redding – one that has The Majestics hitting hard in an instrumental mode that's almost like some of the Mar-Keys or Bar-Kays work on Stax from the mid 60s – tight drums on the bottom, Hammond and guitar grooving in the middle, and some occasional horns ... Skin Tight
Mercury, 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
Great work from the Ohio Players – and proof that moving to a big label could be a good thing for a funky group! This was the band's first album for Mercury – and although one might have the temptation to say that the label cut down the radical funk sound of the trippy Westbound years, ... Possibly the closest thing to an early "hit" the Staple Singers ever had – an album that starts off with their classic rendition of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", an instantly timeless tune penned by Roebuck Staples! The group's quite young at this point, and is a quintet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swing Low
Vee Jay/Mississippi, 1961. New Copy (reissue)
Excellent early work from The Staple Singers – one of their first recordings, and an all-gospel album that's drenched in the same sort of soul that you'd hear on their big hits of later years – a key influence on the sound of the secular 60s, heard here in its best original format! A mindblowingly good album from Earth Wind & Fire – one of the best we've heard from them in years, and a set that really lives up to all the faith we've had in the group over the years! The sound is right on the money – from performance to production – with a vibe that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1972. New Copy (reissue)
One of the best James Brown soul LPs from the 70's, with a great mix of funky tracks and deeper soul tracks. The latter is represented by the classics "Public Enemy #1" and "King Heroin", both hard soul political tracks. The funk is represented by "Talkin' Loud & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Caesar
Polygram, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
Damn, is this a great record! The album's not only one of the best blacksploitation soundtracks ever recorded, it's also one of James Brown's funkiest outings of the early 70s! Nearly every cut's a winner, and James gets some very funky help from The JBs, who groove hard on the best instrumental ... LP, Vinyl record album

A monster album that's gone onto influence a generation – but which was barely recognized at the time! An incredible record – quite possibly our favorite ever by Marvin Gaye! The album is quite unique – written by Leon Ware, and recorded in collaboration with him – done as a "suite" of tracks based on themes of passion, joy, and new love – all of which were very ... LP, Vinyl record album
