A sweet swinger from this hip Japanese vocalist – one of the groovier talents of that scene in the 70s, and an artist whose name wasn't that well known on our side of the Pacific! The record's got a soulful bounce right from the start – thanks to backings from the trio of pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, with extra work on alto by Yoshio Otomo – sliding in underneath the vocals to give the tunes a sharp edge! Miami's got this way of singing that has a sweet little crackle – not a mode that's echoing other American singers, but a groove that's all her own – and one that suits her nicely on titles that include "Gravy Waltz", "Chains Of Love", "Bye Bye Blackbird", "I'm Walkin", and "Good Morning Heartache". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
