CD (Item 614596) EMI (UK), Late 60s — Condition: Used

Only in England could a bottle of powder be used as a symbol for soul music – but that's ok with us, because we've always trusted the British for the best reissues of classic soul! The title's a reference to the talcum powder used by dancers on the Northern Soul scene to help their moves on the floor – and even if you're not in the know enough to get that reference, you'll find plenty of rare soul to love on this set! Like previous volumes, the groove here is nicely uptempo, and pulled from a range of rare singles in the EMI family of labels – tracks originally issued on Liberty, Imperial, and Capitol Records – and featuring some very unusual numbers you might not normally include in a soul set! The package is overflowing with 26 rare tracks – a huge amount of music to have packed in one place – and there's some wonderful surprises here that make the set way more interesting than the usual dodgy soul collection. Titles include "Love Is Dangerous" by Frank Polk, "Are You Trying To Get Rid Of Me Baby" by The Crystals, "Step Into My World" by Harry Starr, "It's All Over" by The Gee's, "Livin In Love" by Sheila Anthony, "She's Called A Woman" by The Magnificent Seven, "Lady Love" by The Vontastics, "Party In The Woods" by The Persuasions, "To The Bitter End" by Bobby Hill, and "What Can Go Wrong" by The Thrills.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
