Classic modern soul from the legendary Frankie Beverly! The record's perhaps one of their best remembered – most likely for the killer cut "Joy & Pain", which has a great hook that's been sampled many times over the years. The record also features the wonderful "Southern Girl", an excellent smooth cut that's a great example of the kind of solid soul that Frankie was bringing to the charts in the early 80s. Other tracks include "Roots", "Changing Times", and "The Look In Your Eyes". (Includes the lyric sleeve.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We Are One
Capitol, 1983. Very Good+
Frankie Beverly and crew can't miss at this point – and as usual, this album by Maze stands head and shoulders above most of its soul contemporaries from the time. The overall feel is nice and warm, with plenty of focus on Frankie's sweet smooth vocals – and the band grooves behind him ... LP, Vinyl record album

Street Called Desire
Capitol, 1985. Near Mint-
A bit late in the game for Rene & Angela, though they're still pumping out some classic 80s groove numbers, with Angela Winbush's flair for great songs. There's a few numbers here that are moving a bit too far into the commercial radio slow jam territory for our tastes, but there's a couple of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Twice As Sweet
Capitol, 1980. Very Good
Twice as sweet, and mighty neat – a killer set from Taste Of Honey, and one that has the girls moving away from Mizell Brothers help in the studio, and getting some great grooves from George Duke! Duke brings in all his best jazzy soul to the duo – lots of keyboards stepping around the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cotillion, 1980. Near Mint-
Great smooth soul from Wee Gee – a wonderful little record from the dawn of the 80s! The album's a great one, thanks largely to Vernon Bullock, who wrote, arranged, and produced with that uptempo modern style that he brought to his best work of the 70s. The soaring title track is a 10+ ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1979. Very Good+
An oft-overlooked funky soul gem from the incredible Roy Ayers – taking turns with both uptempo material and more smoothed out soul sounds – all done with Roy's trademark jazzy approach to the dancefloor! No Stranger To Love is a sly, and often funky set that deserves to be mentioned ... LP, Vinyl record album
