Moodier music than you might guess from the lush image on the cover – a really evocative mix of acoustic and electronic elements – filtered together in ways that lie somewhere between the world/jazz experiments of 70s Sweden, and some of the more creative moments at ECM! The music's performed by the duo of Mari Kvien Brunvoll and Stein Urheim – who each sing a bit, play various percussion instruments, and work some cool tape effects to kind of flesh out the sound – yet often in ways that preserve the acoustic core of the instrumentation. Stein uses some extra-cool "fretless bouzouki" – and Mari plays a kalimba quite nicely, too – and titles include "Voss", "We're So Many", "I Don't Wanna Go", "Paradoxes", "Don't Mind", and "Sleeping In The Bush".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Not a new groove, but a great one – the sound of Tubby Hayes in the late 50s – a time when his tenor skills were easily at the top of the UK scene – if not the entire global jazz scene as well! Sharp-edged John Coltrane at his best – a record that we'd rank right up there with Love Supreme, and which is a key transition point in Coltrane's musical ideas! Soulful and pounding! Joe Dukes is one of the greatest soul jazz drummers ever – the key to the unique sound that Jack McDuff had during his big rise to fame in the mid 60s, a combination of tightly funky rhythms underneath, with a freer approach to the top of the kit that worked perfectly ... Funky organ, hard tenor sax, and plenty of choppy guitar make this another jazz funk gem in the crown of the legendary Funk Inc! The great city of Boston lost Babe Ruth in 1920, and it was pretty much all downhill until the Modern Lovers showed up at the end of the 60s.
