Olympia Concert (with bonus tracks) (Japanese pressing)
CD (Item 601374) Fontana (Japan), 1958 — Condition: New Copy
An excellent live set by the Jazz Messengers – recorded in Paris in 1958, but with a hard heavy groove that's right up there with their best Blue Note work from the US! The group at th is time plays hard, heavy, and straight ahead – no surprise, given that the lineup is killer – with a young Lee Morgan on trumpet and Bobby Timmons on piano, plus tenor from Benny Golson – who was making a key appearance with the group during this time. Golson's writing is definitely a part of the group's sound here – but Timmons' influence is definitely felt, too – and titles include "Moanin", "Justice", "Just By Myself", "I Remember Clifford", and "Are You Real". CD also features the bonus cuts "Whisper Not" and "Blues March". (SHMCD pressing.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
