Northern Soul from the the Harthon Records vaults – rare ones from the Philly scene! "Honey Please Stay" has nice stripped down instrumental arrangements, with piano and bass prominent in the mix with the drums – with the song really taking flight via the strong lead and sweet harmony backing vocals. "Baby Don't Do It" ups the tempo just a bit – and it'sn another great number!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Jimmy Wisner did a great job on the arrangements here – creating this crashing Detroit soul groove for Dean Courtney – one with some of the hardest-hitting vibes we've ever heard! Dean's voice soars right out of the box, just right for the vibe of the tune – and dips into an even ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

One of our favorite songs ever from The Exciters – a massive tune that's got a lot more power and presence than their earlier hits – this monstrous groove that's definitely "Blowing Up" right from the start, with these searing vocals that really match the instrumental energy! ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Paul Anka on a funky 45? Stranger things have happened – and the tune's a surprisingly wonderful soul number from Paul's overlooked mid 60s years – done in a groove that's pure Detroit Northern, complete with some tight vibes ringing out alongside the lead vocals! One of the most soulful records we've heard from Third Man Records – a sweet and rootsy 7" single – with Michael Kiwanuka's own "You've Got Nothing To Lose" on the main side, and a great cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Waitin Round To Die" on the flip! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Rare late 70s Latin soul from Jade! "The Siesta Is Over" is a killer mix of styles – anchored strongly by funk, thanks of the limber bass line, JBs-inspired horns, raw drums and organ – but it's got a sunny vibe, too, thanks the groovy male and female harmony vocals. The ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Lee Fields takes on a great tune by JJ Cale – and serves the whole thing up in a deep soul vibe that's a nice change from usual – almost a country soul sort of vibe, with a different late 60s mode than some of Lee's other work! Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

"Number One" steps ahead in a sweet blend of Hammond organ lines and nicely snapping rhythms – a groove that's maybe a more kicked-up version of early Meters at their best – as the bassline bounces quickly and adds a bit of a go-go soul vibe to the tune! "Bikes" is ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
